Journal Article 2020 06 13 Given the socio-economic changes in recent decades and the need to examine intergenerational relationships, this study examines the various dimensions of adult children's support of parents, including instrumental support, emotional support and financial support. The statistical population of this cross sectional survey was men and women aged 18 years old and above in Tehran who had at least one living parent and non-coresident. A thousand men and women were selected by multi-stage clustering sampling from 30 districts. The findings have shown that adult children's support with their parents was not the same in different dimensions, so as emotional support for parents was greater than instrumental support, especially financial support. The factors influencing adult children's support of  their parents are not the same in different dimensions and has been influenced by the socioeconomic characteristics, resources, needs, and barriers in parents and adult children. Instrumental support affected by parental age, living arrangements, adult children's religiosity, child committment, geographical distance; emotional support affected by adult children's religiosity, filial obligation, parental conflict, conflict with parents; financial support affected by the age of the parents, the welfare of adult children, child commitment,  conflict with parents, geographical distance. These findings confirm the theories of altruism, intergenerational and contingent solidarity. با توجه به تغییرات اقتصادی-اجتماعی در دهه­های اخیر و لزوم بررسی روابط بین‌نسلی، این پژوهش به بررسی ابعاد مختلف حمایت فرزندان بزرگسال از والدین مشتمل بر حمایت ابزاری، حمایت عاطفی و حمایت مالی پرداخته‌ است. جامعه آماری این پیمایش مقطعی، زنان و مردان 18 سال و بالاتر در شهر تهران بوده که حداقل یک والد زنده داشته و هم‌سکنا نبوده‌اند. 1000 نفر به شیوه خوشه‌ای چند مرحله‌ای از 30 حوزه انتخاب شده­اند. یافته‌ها نشان داد حمایت فرزندان بزرگسال از والدین در ابعاد مختلف یکسان نیست؛ به‌طوری‌که حمایت عاطفی از والدین بیشتر و حمایت ابزاری و به‌ویژه حمایت مالی کمتر گزارش شد. عوامل اثرگذار بر حمایت فرزندان بزرگسال از والدین نیز در ابعاد مختلف یکسان نبوده و متأثر از ویژگی‌های اقتصادی-اجتماعی، منابع، نیازها و بازدارنده‌ها در فرزندان بزرگسال و والدین است. حمایت ابزاری از والدین متأثر از سن والدین، ترتیبات زندگی، دین‌داری فرزندان بزرگسال، تعهد فرزندی و فاصله جغرافیایی است. حمایت عاطفی متأثر از دین‌داری فرزندان بزرگسال، تعهد فرزندی، تضاد میان والدین و تضاد با والدین است. همچنین، حمایت مالی متأثر از سن والدین، رفاه فرزندان بزرگسال، تعهد فرزندی، تضاد با والدین و فاصله جغرافیایی است. یافته‌ها تأییدکننده نظریه‌‌های نوع‌دوستی، همبستگی بین‌نسلی و اقتضایی است. https://jips.nipr.ac.ir/article_122585_943443da3c335a5a9f1b1a02e541d967.pdf
