Demographic studies document gender differences in singlehood at the aggregate level, but systematic evidence on whether the cognitive categories of singlehood orientation diverge by gender is scarce. This study quantified gender divergence across these categories and identified the level at which it emerges, within a documentary corpus on Iranian youth singlehood. A qualitative documentary-analysis method was used; open and axial coding techniques from grounded theory were applied solely to classify the data, and the categorical structure was quantitized. From 245 documents (1385-1405 Solar Hijri), 58 sources were selected through Scott's four criteria and theoretical sampling and coded line by line: 803 open codes in 52 subcategories and 10 categories, each gender-labeled. A relative divergence index against the corpus baseline was computed for eight gender-bearing categories and 23 subcategories with over five gendered codes. Only one category, egalitarian attitudes toward gender roles, showed prominent feminine divergence. Yet six of eight categories were bidirectional, and the strongest feminine subcategory and one of the two strongest masculine subcategories lay within one category that appeared balanced overall. These findings formulate intra-category bipolarization: both sexes largely reach the same categories through different pathways of meaning.
