Suicide is a complex public health issue with social determinants. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between experiencing domestic violence and suicidal ideation among Afghan immigrant women residing in Shiraz, Iran. A survey was conducted with a sample of 380 Afghan immigrant women. Data were collected using the Standard Domestic Violence Questionnaire and the Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation (BSSI), and analyzed through correlation, ANOVA, independent t-tests, and multiple regression. Experiencing all forms of domestic violence had a significant positive correlation with suicidal ideation. The strongest correlations were observed for economic violence (r=0.68), psychological violence (r=0.63), physical violence (r=0.60), and sexual violence (r=0.60). Background variables were also significantly associated with increased suicidal ideation. The final regression model explained 69% of the variance in suicidal ideation. Results confirm a strong and significant relationship between domestic violence and increased suicidal ideation among Afghan immigrant women. This relationship is shaped within the specific context of migration, compounded by economic deprivation and social and educational marginalization. The findings underscore the necessity for comprehensive intervention programs that simultaneously address domestic violence and improve socio-economic conditions and access to support services for this vulnerable group.
